Golf Vacations

Luxury golf vacations, with the tee times handled.

A luxury golf vacation lives or dies on tee times. The course everyone wants books up, the transfer runs late, and suddenly the round you flew for is at 2 p.m. in the heat.

I plan golf trips so the hard part is already done. Tee times booked, clubs and transfers sorted, and a place to stay that the non-golfers in your group are just as happy with.

Where I plan golf trips

Ireland

Links golf the way it started, wind and all. I plan Ireland with Brendan Vacations, a company I'm certified with, and build golf days into the route so the trip still includes the coast, the towns and a long dinner.

Mexico

VidantaWorld in Nuevo Vallarta has courses by Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman, and Los Cabos has oceanfront holes golfers travel a long way to play. I hold three VidantaWorld certifications.

Jamaica

Rose Hall outside Montego Bay is golf country, with the White Witch and Cinnamon Hill courses close by. I've stayed at Rose Hall and I know the area well.

The Dominican Republic and Barbados

Casa de Campo's Teeth of the Dog in the Dominican Republic and Sandy Lane in Barbados. I'm certified for both destinations.

Hawaii

Maui's Kapalua and the Big Island's Mauna Kea, where the scenery is half the reason to play.

Golf villas and golf cruises

For a group, a golf villa beats a hotel. Everyone under one roof, a chef for dinner and the first tee a short ride away. My villa collection has a full set of golf villas to choose from.

Golf cruises are another way to do it. You play a different course in port, and the ship handles the moving.

Is a golf vacation right for you?

It fits you if

  • You'd plan the trip around a course you've always wanted to play.
  • You're traveling with a group of golfers, or golfers and non-golfers.
  • You want tee times locked before you land.

It's not the best fit if

  • You'd rather play the course down the road at home.
  • You want golf every single day with no room for anything else. I'll still build it, but I'll ask twice.

Questions

Questions I get asked

November through April, when it's cooler and dry. Summer works for early morning rounds, but the heat is real and it's hurricane season from June through November.

Golfers who want to play courses they've only seen on TV, groups of friends and couples where one plays and one doesn't.

If golf is an afterthought, a resort trip with one round booked fits better than a golf-first plan.

Tee times at the courses people travel for go fast, and some need booking months out. I book them, plan the transfers around them and keep the rest of the group happy in between.

Book the tee time first, then the flights. It's much easier to move a flight than to find a second slot at a course that's full.

Five to seven nights with three or four rounds. Ireland is better at eight to ten nights so you're not driving and playing every day.

Six to nine months for winter in Mexico and the Caribbean. Nine to twelve months for Ireland in summer.

It depends on the courses, the resort and how many rounds. Green fees, carts, caddies and club rental vary a lot by course, so I quote each trip directly and list every fee.

You'll connect through a hub like Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver or Dallas, then fly on to Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos or Dublin. I check the airline's golf bag rules before you book.

Tell me the course on your list. I'll build the trip around the tee time.

I reply within one business day.
